Jon Mercer

Jon Mercer is an experienced naturalist with an honours degree in zoology from Royal Holloway College, University of London
and a PhD in Animal Genetics from Edinburgh University. After working for many years in the livestock industry, including
a period running a masters course in Animal Genetics at the University of Edinburgh, he latterly developed and ran the Scottish
Borders Biological Records Centre. Jon was actively involved in the local recorders' group and has also been an RSPB group
leader. He has a wide range of natural history interests, including birds, mammals, butterflies and moths, plants and wildlife
recording.

Angela Mercer

Angela Mercer has an honours degree in biological sciences from the University of Edinburgh. After a spell at York University
she worked for the Cranedale Centre in the Yorkshire Wolds running environmental courses for school and university groups.
After we moved up permanently to Scotland in 1995, she and a friend set up the acclaimed and successful Flat Cat Gallery in
Lauder. Angela has a keen interest in woods and trees and has been very involved in community woodlands and helped form the
Community Woodlands Association. She was also on the South Scotland Regional Forum of the Forestry Commission.
